Lend a Hand -- Together We Can Make a Difference
Volunteer opportunities abound in the Department of Parks and Recreation. You can volunteer to assist at fun special events like Family Skate Night and Arlington Palooza, help individuals with disabilities learn to swim, help to remove invasive plants from our parks, and much more.
- Firefly Festival, Sat., June 30
Volunteers needed to assist with the annual Firefly Festival. This is a fun evening out for the whole family with games and other activities. You can sign up to volunteer for a specific activity or the whole event. Register at Firefly volunteers.
- Families Unplugged
Families Unplugged is a bi-monthly Saturday morning program for parents and children with various, fun themes. Volunteers are needed to welcome guests, assist families with activities, games and crafts, and help with set-up and clean-up before and after events. Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Arlington Mill Community Center.
- Remove Invasive Plants
Join your neighbors one day every month as they restore the area's natural plant communities. Help remove plants like English ivy and bush honeysuckle which threaten the health of Arlington's parks and natural areas. RIP events occur every weekend (except holidays and fifth Saturday’s) all over Arlington County. Sign up and plan to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, including long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, and perhaps a hat.
