On Saturday, May 13, neighborhoods across Arlington will organize events ranging from picnics to sporting events. A beloved Arlington tradition, Neighborhood Day brings communities together to enjoy the great outdoors (or indoors) and strengthens ties between neighbors. 2017 events:
- Jennie Dean Park Historical Markers Unveiling Ceremony
On Saturday, May 13 at noon, join Arlington County and the Nauck Civic Association at Jennie Dean Park for the official unveiling of the park’s new historical markers. Immediately following the event, join us for a tour of Arlington Food Assistance Center’s (AFAC) new office at 2708 S Nelson St. An informal reception will follow at the New District Brewery, 2709 S Oakland St. View the event flyer and the event webpage. - 7th Annual Turtle Trot 5K Race – CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
On Saturday, May 13, the Turtle Trot race returns to Bluemont Park! This is a chip-timed race on a certified course. Check in at 9 a.m.; Race starts at 10 a.m. Meet at the lower Bluemont Park Picnic Shelter, North 4th Street Entrance. Adults: $30; Kids 12 and under: $15. Register here. - International Migratory Bird Day Festival – CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
On Saturday, May 13 from 9-11 a.m., celebrate International Migratory Bird Day by learning about migratory birds such as hummingbirds and osprey with hands-on activities, games, crafts, bird walks and more! Meet at Lacey Woods Park Picnic Shelter. View the event webpage.
- Lee Highway Alliance Arlington Community Day Events
As part of Neighborhood Day 2017, the Lee Highway Alliance is hosting THREE events to celebrate!

- Tuckahoe Home and Garden Tour
On Saturday, May 13 from noon to 5 p.m., spend an afternoon visiting the most gorgeous homes and gardens in Arlington. The self-guided Tuckahoe Home & Garden Tour – not limited to the Tuckahoe school boundaries – showcases recently renovated Arlington homes that solve common space and design challenges through creative remodeling. - Fairlington Home and Garden Tour
This day only happens every two years! On Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., come tour a variety of renovated living spaces and beautifully designed gardens in Fairlington Village. Designated a “Virginia Historic Landmark” and on the “National Register of Historic Places” Fairlington is a unique and vibrant Arlington neighborhood featuring mature trees, pastoral landscapes and colonial revival style architecture. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance or day of starting at 10 a.m. at the North Fairlington Community Center, 3005 South Abingdon Street. - Remove Invasive Plants
Want to increase native species diversity right here in Arlington? Work parties are held every month and are making a real difference, with the return of ferns and wildflowers, and the animals that depend on them, in areas once covered in destructive invasive plants. On Saturday, May 13 from noon-2 p.m., come join Enrique and special guest Mimi in a two-hour dance party sponsored by the Arlington Deputy Sheriff’s Association in their efforts to continue supporting the Special Olympics organization. - Tara-Leeway Heights Community Day

The Long Branch Creek Civic Association will bring the community together to celebrate Arlington Neighborhood Day on Saturday, May 13, 5-9 p.m. at Troy Park. The event will include a moon bounce, games and activities, potluck dinner, snacks, beverages and an outdoor movie screening; the first of a summer movie night series.
