Construction will soon be getting underway on the Donaldson Run Tributary B stream improvement project in in Zachary Taylor Park. Construction is expected to begin the week of June 21, 2021 and last about 6 months.
This project begins at North Upton Street and extends approximately 1,400 linear feet downstream to where Tributary B connects with Donaldson Run Tributary A in Zachary Taylor Park. The hike/bike trail adjacent to Tributary B will be closed from the intersection of N. Vermont and N. Vernon Streets to the end of the project during construction.
The Donaldson Run Tributary B stream project will address critical infrastructure, public safety and environmental threats. The project will stabilize the stream’s eroding banks to protect a threatened 30-inch water main and sanitary sewer, which crosses the stream and runs parallel to it. The project also includes repair of four failed storm sewer outfalls. The project will also reconstruct and protect the Zachary Taylor Park pedestrian / bicycle pathway and add under trail drainage. The construction area will be re-planted and restored at the completion of the project.
The project will also help reduce sediment and nutrient pollution and help the County meet regulatory requirements for water quality. The Donaldson Run neighborhood applied for and received Neighborhood Conservation funding for the project in 2007.
The project will consist of various construction components, including clearing of vegetation, grading the stream banks, installation of rock structures in the stream channel, protection of the water main and sanitary sewer infrastructure, construction of new storm sewer outfalls, and re-planting and restoration of the construction area.
The County will take significant efforts to keep inconveniences at a minimum. We appreciate your patience as the County conducts this important work.
