After much consideration, Arlington Parks & Recreation has made the difficult decision to cancel the fall session of Cooperative Playgroups that was scheduled to run from September 8 – December 18, 2020.
These have been unprecedented times. We hope this message finds you well.
Arlington County has been closely monitoring federal, state and local safety guidelines to keep our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We care deeply about the health and safety of your family and our staff.
The Governor’s Virginia Forward Phase Three guidance for programs for children under four requires considerably reduced group sizes, physical distancing participants six feet apart, limited sharing (of toys, materials and equipment), and recommends consistent staffing patterns.
Based on the Cooperative Playgroup program model, the age of our participants, current guidance on child interactions, environment and group, we believe it will be challenging to adhere to the guidelines to provide a safe and healthy environment for our families and a rewarding experience for your little one.
Recreation and socialization are important to a child’s development. At this time, we are offering a fun, virtual camp experience in our Rec@Home program, weekdays at 11 a.m. on Facebook Live. And if you’d like to venture out with your little one, we have Programs in the Park, held most days of the week. You can sort the calendar by date, age or interest. Specifically, your little one may enjoy Preschool Playdates and Preschool Nature programs.
To support families with tots, we are pushing out some outdoor programs from some of our most popular contractors, including Music Together, Learn Now Music as well as GoBananas and sports options. And we hope to have similar indoor programs this fall, as long as we continue to make progress with COVID.
We will continue to communicate with you as new information becomes available. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for out tot program listserv here as well. We appreciate your support and patience during these unprecedented times.
