Arlington Parks sustained considerable damage in July’s storm, and crews have installed protective barriers around impacted areas.
- All of the picnic shelters and playgrounds are open (except for Glencarlyn, which is expected in the coming months). DPR will be cleaning up sandboxes and volleyball courts next.
- DPR has debris cleaned up and bathrooms open including Bon Air and are currently working on Bluemont. Still on the list are Glencarlyn and Lubber Run. Repair at Glencarlyn restrooms should be completed in about two weeks. The community should be mindful of crews who will be using heavy equipment for cleanup.
- County contractors have begun removing bridges that were destroyed by the storm, including the bridges at 38th St. N. and N. Chesterfield Street, Bon Air, Gulf Branch, Lubber Run and Glencarlyn. All bridges and fords damaged in the storm are being assessed for safety and next steps.
- Significant erosion occurred underneath at the underpass at Wilson Blvd. on the W&OD Trail. At this point we do not have an estimated repair date, but it will be at least several months. Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation will be working with an engineer to assess the damage to the trail under the bridge. When the assessment in completed repairs will be considered and implemented as our budget and permitting allow.
